We hadn't gone far when Gem realized this was a chance to ride his scooter so we went back to the house and the kids got their scooters. The terrain was fairly uneven and rough at times, but they love to scooter and were happy.
Gem is pretty much a natural on the scooter. He has a finely attuned sense of balance. And, interestingly, any motor planning issues he has when his feet are on the ground (he trips/bumps/falls a lot...and has a dad whose childhood nickname was 'Duffer' because he fell so often as a kid :-) seem to evaporate as soon as he in the air whether he's gliding on a scooter or perched on a table or the railing of the top bunk.
Sag is fighting to learn how to scoot. He is extremely motivated and today he fell, spectacularly, three times, and did not shed a single tear. If you know Sag, you know that this is remarkable. I was stunned.
I am in awe watching these kids grow and learn. Sometimes it's quick and easy, sometimes it takes tenacity and time.
Watching them with Baxter this stay, they are interacting with him much more. They are paying attention, making observations, engaging him in play and have been eager to hold his leash when we take him out on walks. This has been a long time coming, it's taken them three years to get to this point.
You never know how long it will take for something to phase in or out of percolation. What's important is to live in awareness of the percolation that happens. To honor it and let it touch and amaze you.
ETA: A word from Cap's mom: " (Cap) was not called Duffer because he fell down a lot - it was just a name J gave him because with his name there really wasn't a nickname.
